Conceived in silk linen and self-lined, the ASHAALIA Bell Sleeve Dress receives 18-25 hours of Karigari hand-beading across the neckline and shoulder in a dense surface mapping. Glass stones are applied panel by panel in ASHAALIA's Bay of Bengal atelier using Aari embroidery technique.
The bell sleeve panels are cut and structured separately before the bodice bead panels are attached - ensuring the dramatic sleeve volume falls without distortion from the shoulder seam.
The bell sleeve has a long history in South Asian dress, from the flared sleeves of the anarkali silhouette to the layered arms of Mughal miniature figures. The beading at the neckline of this dress draws from the rani haar, the queen's necklace, the multi-layered choker worn by Indian royalty as an emblem of status and adornment.
The silk-linen construction provides matte lustre and natural breathability - wearable in warm climates and evening air conditioning equally.
