Conceived in mid-weight fabrications and fully lined in breathable silk, the Rehana Coat receives approximately 12 hours of Karigari hand-beading across the full surface. Glass stones are applied directly onto the fabric pile - a technically demanding process that requires the artisan to work with the direction of the pile to avoid surface compression.
Each panel is beaded in ASHAALIA's Bay of Bengal atelier with uniform tension; the silk lining is cut to support the accumulated weight of the surface without pulling at the seams.
Velvet and beading share a long history in South Asian court dress - the Mughal tradition of cut velvet robes with surface embellishment produced some of the most technically demanding garments in the history of textile craft. The Rehana Velvet Coat continues that conversation: the velvet pile provides depth to the glass stone work that flat fabric cannot match, the stones reading differently in light and shadow as the coat moves.
