Cut in Italian acetate and lined in viscose satin, the Nargis Tulip Sleeve Dress receives 18-22 hours of Karigari hand-beading. A mix of sequins, seed beads and glass stones forms the Nargis narcissus motif - cascading across the fused tulip sleeves in ASHAALIA's the Bay of Bengal atelier.
Each sleeve panel is beaded flat before the tulip structure is formed; seams at the sleeve head are hand-reinforced to carry the beading weight without distorting the sculptural volume at the shoulder.
The nargis motif - narcissus in Persian and Urdu - was used in Mughal botanical illustration as a reference flower: the form that textile artisans most frequently translated into bead and thread because its radiating petal structure suited the techniques available to them.
The tulip sleeves create sculptural volume at the shoulder that balances the structured fall of the skirt below. The Italian acetate resists wrinkling and moves without stiffness.
