Conceived in Japanese triacetate polyester and lined in viscose satin, the Rehana Beaded Cage Dress receives 18-22 hours of Karigari hand-beading. The neckline is cut as a sweetheart, accentuating the décolletage before the cage structure takes over at the bodice.
The cage is formed from hand-made stones and silver thread, worked in ASHAALIA's the Bay of Bengal atelier; the dress beneath carries sequin work across its surface. The two layers are beaded independently before assembly - the structured cage spacing creates visual depth that flat bead work cannot achieve, light passing through the cage openings and refracting against the sequinned layer beneath.
Rehana - sweet-scented herb in Arabic - names the line distinguished by architectural thinking in its silhouettes. The cage dress structure has a history in both Western couture and South Asian ceremonial dress - layered overlays that create depth and shadow at the surface. In the Rehana Cage Dress, the hand-made stone cage and the sequinned ground work together: the visible structure and the light beneath it.
